Uhhhh Parade

Well Happy St. Patrick’s Day to youse guys….

Marx and I did attend the parade but we were slightly late getting started this morning so we did NOT get a good spot and our pictures basically suck. Sorry guys.

Maybe we were stuck behind you? :-)

Anyway, if you want to see the few we ended up taking, you can check them out on flickr.

Dude, it’s almost St. Patty’s Day

Okay I would go to all the trouble to put up a big old list of all the St. Patrick’s Day stuff going on for Butte’s Biggest Holiday…..

But the Montana Standard went though all the trouble already. Just looking at that list makes me tired.

We will definitely be at the parade. Otherwise, I’m not even sure which events we will hit…. What events are you going to make sure to attend?

Being on Saturday will give the whole day a different flavor. Can’t wait!

Lost in Yonkers at the Mother Lode

Lost in Yonkers

The Montana Repertory Theatre is touring with Neil Simon’s Lost In Yonkers right now, and they’re coming to Butte with the show.

See it Thursday, February 1st at 8 p.m. at the Mother Lode Theatre in uptown Butte.

I haven’t been able to suss out what the tickets are running–I think it’s a state secret or something. I do know that whatever they’re asking, I’m sure it’s reasonable and Marx and I will certainly catch this one.

For details and to reserve your seats, call the Mother Lode at 723-3602; or visit buttearts.org

Annual Ice Sculpting Contest

Artists slaved away for most of the day yesterday in uptown Butte creating freezing masterpieces.

We drove around town for a bit last night and checked out a lot of the sculptures. There are some really awesome ones up there.

If you have any pictures of the sculptures and would like to share, please e-mail them to us (buttetalk@gmail.com).

If you get a chance, you should really go up and check them out!

2006 Butte Christmas Stroll

The annual Uptown Christmas Stroll, The Magic of Christmas, will be this Friday, December 1st, in Historic Uptown Butte from 5:30pm to 10:00pm.

Check out the details and schedule from Mainstreet Uptown Butte.

The Christmas Stroll is always on the first Friday in December and is always a fantastic time.

This year, the Historic Uptown Bus (HUB) will be running from the Butte Plaza Mall (the old Stage location) every half hour. It’s free and will decrease your parking woes.

And remember, if you indulge, have someone else do the driving.

We’ll look forward to seeing you Uptown.

Economic Development Summit

As you may have heard, Butte will be the site of an Economic Development Summit next spring with ties to some pretty big names in media and business.

From the Billings Gazette:

WASHINGTON – Microsoft founder Bill Gates and former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw will headline an economic development summit in Butte in April.

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., is organizing the summit. Gates will appear live via satellite.

“The summit is about working together to boost our state’s economy and create more good-paying jobs,” Baucus said. “We want our kids to be able to stay here and raise their families.”

The summit begins April 30 and ends May 1.

Well, it is an excellent honor for Butte to be selected as the place to host the summit.

One commenter on the Billings Gazette story thinks that it’s a wasted honor.

Butte is a hole. If Montana were to be given an enima, that is where they’d stick it. How about Billings, Missoula, or Bozeman for such an event!

We are pretty sick and tired of Butte having this rap to the rest of the state. People who haven’t been here in a while really have nothing to base this kind of comment on. Butte’s a changing place. We really are going to have to work extremely hard just to climb out of the “hole” of everyone elses’ biases.

I think the summit will be good for Butte, and it’s no wonder that Baucus would select us for his damn summit. We’re the only place in this state that supports his party in the first place, aren’t we?

So come on Butte, it’s our turn to shine. Don’t let the naysayers have the satisfaction of being even CLOSE to right.

And for the record, we in Butte can manage to spell enema right…
