Butte will host the State AA Championship Tournament on January 12th and 13th, 2007. Approximately 600 speakers and coaches from AA and ABC schools around the state will compete for honors inn 11 events. This tournament is being co-hosted by Butte Contral High School Speech and Debate.

No experience is necessory to judge a round of debate, speech or interpretation. There will be a judges clinic offered at 7:00 on Wednesday, January 10th in the Butte High Commons for those wanting to familiarize or review judging procedures. The elevator at Butte High will be available throughout the weekend for judges and participants requiring assistance. For any questions, contact Doug Ruffier at 533-2273.

Apparently Butte High School students spent some time outside earlier today while firefighters were called out to put out a small fire in the 3rd floor boys’ bathroom.

After the fire was out and officials determined that it was safe, students returned to their classes.

I guess it could have been much worse–I’m glad to hear that it was cleared up quickly and everyone was kept safe.

School Announcement:

All Freshman and new students for the 2006-07 school year at Butte High are to report to the Butte High Auditorium at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 to get aquainted with the school and to recieve their schedules.

East Middle School will also hold their orientation session for all new students (including those entering 7th grade) on Wednesday at 9:00 AM.

All Butte Schools (including Butte Central) will begin first day of classes on Wednesday, August 30, 2006.

As it turns out, the ad in the Standard was just a formality in Jim Street’s contract.

I noticed today as I was sifting though the Montana Standard while doing my daily routine that Butte School Dist. #1 is advertising for a head wrestling coach position for Butte High School.

This is the first I’ve heard of it. I found it odd that the classifieds in the Standard had the job opening but there was no story in the news section or even the sports section regarding the issue.

The Montana Standard Classifieds ad text:

Butte School District No. 1 is accepting applications for the following positions at Butte High School: HEAD WRESTLING COACH (Stipend $3147-$3592 DOE), HEAD GOLF COACH (Stipend $2109 -$2405 DOE). Applications available at the Human Resource Office, 111 N. Montana Street, Butte or by calling 533-2506. Deadline 4:30 p.m., 4/10/06/ Late applications will not be considered. EOE.
