Edmonton Pipers to Blow Their Horns for the Fourth

While visiting my faithful bank today, I noticed they had the schedule for the Edmonton Police Service Pipe & Drum Band for the 4th’s festivities so I thought I’d fill all of you piper-goers in.

P.S.While looking through the band’s website, I found the whole backstory of their Butte connection. It’s pretty darn interesting. You definately should check it out.

Daily Show with Jon Stewart

Sorry we haven’t been blogging too much lately. I’ve been out of town and Delaney hasn’t been feeling very “bloggy” I guess I have to do everything around here.

So in case you didn’t know, Butte and the Berkeley Pit were the topic of a segment on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t worry. Someone put it on YouTube, and here’s your chance.

Personally, I think Butte should be honored to be made fun of and we are already well practiced at making lemonade out of lemons so here’s another opportunity to do just that. Besides, it really is funny. Fritz Daily did a great job, too. He’s a good advocate for Butte.

We’ll be back with more Butte-related posts soon. Sorry for the unintentional hiatus.

Flag Day Events Planned for Wednesday

The Elks are holding Flag Day services at the Butte Plaza Mall Wednesday, June 14th. The ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. in the area outside JC Penney. Information about the Flag and Flag Day will be presented and anyone with flags to despose, they will be collecting your flags for respectful disposal by the American Legion.

Anyone with family serving in the military can bring photos to hang on the Freedom Tree as well.

Happy Flag Day, Butte.

Another Business Vacating the Butte Plaza Mall

The Butte Plaza Mall is losing another business. The Book Exchange is closing their Butte store entirely to expand their Missoula Store.

In a postcard sent to their customers, this is what they had to say…

We’re sorry to inform you that we will be moving our Butte store to Missoula in mid-August. It is with great regret that we’re leaving Butte America! We’ve had a wonderful twelve years here.

Moving the Butte store will allow us to expand the Missoula store from 3,600 sq. ft to 11,200 sq. ft., which will obviously increase our book selection enormously and allow us to better serve all of Western Montana.

When in Missoula after September 5th, be sure to check out our new store and continue to use your credit and gift certificates. If you don’t shop in Missoula, you can use your credit in Butte through August 12th (we’ll be at full inventory).

Thanks again to all our wonderful customers. We’re going to miss being in Butte.

Rebecca Haddad, General Manager

I scanned the postcard they sent out. See the bigger version by clicking on the image below, then clicking “All Sizes” on the flickr page.

Book Exchange Postcard Scan

The Book Exchange is pretty much the last store in that hall of the mall. Now the only reason to head up there is if you have to use the restroom. The Regis salon is still up there, right? Any other stores?

I hate to beat a dead horse about the mall, but when is the mass exodous going to stop?

Related tidbit: Sam Goody’s last day open will be Father’s Day.

This One Makes Me Laugh

Today I was driving down the road quite contently when I heard a Conrad Burns spot on one of our fine local radio stations. At first, I thought, “no big deal.” His ads always give me the strong urge to vomit on him, but I’ve gotten used to the stupidity of “Conrad folk.” Today though, I couldn’t help but laugh hysterically. He actually congratulated Jon Tester for winning the democratic ticket promptly before criticizing the hell out of him. “I look forward to debating him,” Burns mentions, and then goes on to say how everything that Tester believes in is completely wrong. Of course, this was no big surprise coming from someone with the IQ of a goldfish. But, this shows exactly how stupid and rude Mr. Burns really is. How can anyone actually believe that he is sincere in congratulating Jon Tester?!

Here’s to Conrad Burns, you really lightened up my day buddy.

Post-Election Wrap-up

Following yesterday’s primary election, we here at ButteTalk.com are speaking out in support of the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, Jon Tester.

Conrad Burns’s tally yesterday was the worst primary election performance by an incumbent U.S. Senator in over two decades.

We have placed a banner linking back to Jon’s campaign site on our website and we were not paid in any way to do that–it’s a matter of our feelings and opinions only. Our endorsement is independent.

I hope when the general election arrives in November, Butte chooses Jon Tester at the polls.

Butte’s Farmers Market Kicks Off Today

Around 30 vendors will be filling up the area between Park and Broadway on Main Street every Saturday from now until the first of October. The Farmer’s Market opens at 9 am this morning lasting until 1 pm. This is always a fun time for Buttians (and out-of-towners) to do a little outdoor shopping with fresh fruits and vegetables on the top of their lists.

This year’s “market master” is Tricia Thurman-Beckman. If you wish to become a vendor, call Mainstreet Uptown Butte at 497-6464.

Butte’s Fisher Radio Stations Being Sold

Fisher Communications announced recently that they will sell 24 small market radio stations in Montana and Washington. That figure includes three Butte stations: KMBR (95.5 FM), KAAR (92.5 FM), and KXTL (1370 AM).

These and other Fisher stations are being purchased by Cherry Creek Radio, LLC out of Denver.

We’ll have to see what happens as far as changes for Butte’s stations – maybe nothing. Hopefully, this will be a good thing. — But won’t we all miss those uplifting Fisher tones after the Station ID at the top of the hour?! :-)
