ButteTalk’s First Troll
How special.
Seems over the weekend, while Marx and I were busy busy with Evel Days and everything else in our full, rich lives in Butte, ButteTalk had its first troll.
See, when a new person posts a comment to BT, we have to approve it before it appears on the site. Sometimes, when we’re not around, we don’t get to it right away. Friday, our visitor made his first appearance and left us this interesting little missive in the comments on the About page.
Typically BUTTE that there is a Jon Tester DEMOCRAT for Senate advertisement at the top of this BUTTE blog. Too bad so many people in Butte who calls themselves DEMOCRATS cannot admit that in the year 2006 that they are really Republicans!
Harry Truman and Franklin Roosevelt and many good old Irish Catholic hard rock miners would not support Gay Marriage and Abortion and ILLEGAL immigration and these are the issues of today’s DEMOCRATIC party among other morally banktrupt ideas of these New England elitists!
I am a UNION member and I left the NEW Democrtic Party in 1994. It is not what it used to be and it does not represent todays working Americans. It lacks values and cares more about ILLEGALS then we citizens! I will vote for BURNS thank you very much and so should Butte AMERICA!
Where to begin? How about with “Butte AMERICA?”
One of the most awesome things about Butte is that it’s part of America and here in America, we still have the freedom to have our own political viewpoints.
Well, let me tell you something, JP. (Oh did I mention his name is JP?) I am not a registered Democrat. As a party, they tend to be too conservative for me. All of those issues you list, like gay marriage, and my reproductive rights? You may be downright appalled to learn that my opinions GREATLY, VASTLY differ from yours. And so do the opinions of many, many of the people who live right here in my dear Butte. Believe me, “New England elitists” are much more likely to agree with you than I am.
Actually, when it comes to illegal immigration, our viewpoints probably intersect more than you would expect–but since it’s often used as a racist’s code word, I am fairly wary of actually agreeing with you since you vehemently CAPITALIZED the word “illegal” to make a point.
Then on Sunday, our good friend JP was back again. When he found that his comment was not visible on the About page, he tried it again. This time he used a different aol.com email address though.
If this is a Butte Blog than remove the TESTER for Senate ad. at the top of this page? My sister lives in Butte and my mother was raised in Butte and my grandfather worked the “Power†company and I was thrilled to see a Butte resident with a Burns for Senate yard sign a few weeks ago!
The Democratic Party no longer cares for we union members as they once did for hardrock union members in Butte!
Strange…. I notice that he says that his sister lives here, his mother was raised here but he made no mention of living here himself. Odd…. Could it be because his IP address traces back to Illiniois? And not only that–he’s been posting these comments from – *GASP* – his work computer. I won’t say who his employer is, but I will say that he works in a bankruptcy-ridden industry.
In any event, I’m your typical Butte native this way: I don’t like out-of-town or out-of-state numbnuts telling me what I should think or what Butte should think or how Butte should be.
Besides. Butte-Silver Bow is the bluest county in the state. Who is shocked when a Butte blog supports a Democrat? Apparently just JP.
I’m going to go ahead and give JP the benefit of the doubt here. I guess he could live somewhere in Montana and plan on voting for Conrad Burns. Surely he wouldn’t live in another state and continue to absentee vote in Montana? That would be wrong.
JP, I’m going to point you to a post we made here on BT when we first added the Tester for Senate banner to the site. Basically what it says is that we put that there of our own volition because we believe Jon is the best option for this state in this election. It is not a paid advertisement. It is an independent endorsement reflecting our personal opinions as protected under the Constitution of the United States of America.
So yeah, we’re not going to remove it.
I have met both Jon Tester and Conrad Burns in person. I have shaken their hands. I have spoken with each of them. And I offer up my endorsement based on my prior knowledge of their positions, the impressions I got at those meetings, and on their respective records of conduct and decorum. (Notice how Jon’s wiki page doesn’t even have a subheading called Criticism and controversy?)
It is a rare and unique thing about Montana that a young woman such as myself has had the chance to meet both these men and even get to walk away with an impression. Yet I have, and I stand by my opinion that Jon is the man I hope Butte chooses on election day.
So, JP. If you’re wondering why your comments never showed up on that page, I hope that explains why. Feel free to comment on this post. Maybe I’ll even approve your comments. Guess that will just depend.
We pay for this website and we reserve the right to decide on the content it contains.
Edit: Apparently JP is hard at work trolling over at the Montana Standard’s website too.
The link has been fixed–the Standard moved the article.

The link to the trolling at Montana Standard, as I write this, leads to a 404.
Also, someone can brush me up on my Butte history here, but isn’t this town known for its liberal history to the point where a rather small restaurant was once dubbed the GOP meeting place?

Ha ha, good for you!

As a Montana native who lives in another state let me explain how I found your BLOG Butte Talk. I spend a fair amount of time at the Billings Gazette website. It is a very good website for Montana’s largest city and county. At the top of the page they run a section callled BLOGS and as I clicked on the blogs section I saw BUTTE TALK and the very first thing I saw BUTTE TALK was a banner for John Tester. This did not make me very happy and as I said in my original post this comes across as being very typical Butte since yes, as everyone knows, Butte is very DEMOCRATIC voting place but I would argue that it is not as liberal in the year 2006 as some would think. I just think that the in thing in Butte is to say you are a Democrat because your Irish or Italian father who worked in the Mountain Con was a Democrat. Nothing to do with issues as I mentioned.
Delaney and Max, thank you for clarifying that Butte Talk is your website. If you wish to run a Tester Banner that is your right but perhaps I should email the Billings Gazette and ask then to remove your BLOG advertisement or listing until the election is over in the name of fair play? Perhaps you could put a Burns banner up so the people of Butte could click on each banner and get each candidates opinion on the issues so they can make their own decision. Is this possible in Butte, America? I will not email the BG I am sure they have better things to do.
As for my real name and my internet address in Illinois? I don’t give my correct email address as for I don’t need any virus attached emails. I see where some ex columnist at the Standard is going to write on this BLOG and he talks about finding your “real identity”? So who is Max and Delaney since you are so curious as to know who JP is? Maybe Bobby Petrino and Sonny Lubick are my brothers and Don Peoples is my uncle and Evel and I go way back?
As I said, my mother was raised in Butte (she makes a damn good PASTY too!) and my grandpa worked for the Power company and my sister lives in Butte and I have a brother who lives north of Butte and another to the south. When Max and Delaney give their full names and social security numbers and annual income then maybe I will disclose my full name? Fair enough? Fuel for thought. My employer has decided to allow internet access to their employees. They could easily block this access! Did I mention my employer or was it you that took the time to research the internet address? I didn’t post as a rep of my employer but as a private citizen of the United States and perhaps I was off the clock when I posted had you thought of that? My company is doing pretty good right now all things considered. I work in an industry that serves a vital interest to the economic and social well being of the United States and the world. Kind of like Butte copper did at one time and now does for CHINA at $4 a pound.
The only error that I made in my posts was saying that I am going to vote for Burns. I should have said that I support Burns. I may not live in Montana but how 100 US Senators vote affects me where I live. BTW You might find it interesting to know that lots of ILLEGAL immigrants voted for DEMOCRAT Loretta Sanchez of Califorinia thereby defeating Bob Dornan R. Voter fraud! You seem to suggest that I am some sort of racist? If you would like I could translate your site into very good Espanol so I don’t think you want to suggest that I am some sort of racist. (I capitalized the word ILLEGAL since there are basically no DEMOCRATS who oppose illegal immigration and this is a fact! Burns opposes amnesty and wants the border controlled!!) If I could vote in Montana I would vote Burns for the things I mentioned in my original post. I have never met either Burns or Tester but I know how Burns has voted and I know how a DEMOCRAT like Tester will vote. My opinion tells me that most politicians will kiss your baby one day and steal its lolly pop the next and the only politician’s hand I ever shook was Gerald R. Ford’s some years after he left office. He walked over to talk to us which was really cool on his part for we did not go to him.
Yes, I have left some comments on some stories at the Standard. The Standard allows for this as does the Gazette and I am glad to see some other Republicans posting there as well whether they identitify themselves or not. An uncle of mine worked for Lee Enterprises in Helena, Billings and at corporate offices in Davenport Iowa for many years and I know he would vote for Burns (He is deceased!) but another uncle I have I know will vote for Tester so there you go.
Someone mentioned that he doubted I ever lived in Butte. No! I have never lived in Butte but maybe if I could generate the same kind of income that I generate in this other state I would move to Butte. Anybody in good with Dennis Washington? Maybe he could get me a job driving a truck at the Continental Pit? Of course, when Tester is Senator, there will be good jobs for all in Butte right? lol
No! I don’t live in Butte and never have but have been there enough times and have read enough about the place to feel as though I have. (A book called “Mile High, Mile Deep” by a fellow named Richard K O’Mally makes for interesting reading indeed.) When Mom gets together with the ladies they sit and talk about the Murphy’s and the Donovans and the Sullivans and the Petrino’s and the Lubick’s and the Bohanans and the Bohunks the Slavs and Meaderville and Anaconda Road etc etc etc. God it gets kind of old. I think I have seen 10,000 pictures of old Butte taken by this C Owen Smithers fellow? Enough! I do like that website pitwatch.org because I wonder what is going to happen to the Berkeley Lake? Since I have been classified as a troll maybe the EPA or ARCO will let me put a boat on that lake and I can troll for some Browns or Rainbows? lol
Yes, I was in Butte a few months ago and I was pleased to see some Burns yard signs around town. The Orizotti’s didn’t refuse my Republican greenbacks at their Pork Chop John’s place on Harrison. Is it still Harrison at that point and then it goes up by the Civic Center right? BTW Did the Copper King Inn and JC Penny swap sites? Seems to me as though JC Penny used to be across from the cemetary where my grandparents are laid to rest.
There you have it and it will not be the end of my world either way if Tester and or Burns wins. You put the banner up for I didn’t and I reacted…..”if you are gonna fly with the crows you better be prepared to get shot at”…..Tap er light!

Well, JP thanks for your reply.
I have no problem with people not revealing their true identity on the internet. Obviously that would be pretty hypocritical. The reason I don’t give my real name is that I want to be able to be honest 100% of the time here, without worrying that something I say will result in me losing my job. Which, while not probable is certainly possible.
Looks like we both made some knee-jerk, reactionary statements. Hope this is a truce.
The Billings Gazette links to every blog in the state. They’re cool like that. They even link to Tester Time and Left in the West and I’m sure there are some Burns blogs too.
Oh and to answer your question, JC Penney used to be in the building that Quality Supply and the Dollar Tree occupy now–it’s not quite as far south as the Copper King, just south of WalMart.
